A door opens in Zgornja Polskava. Inside, three rooms hold one table each, so no more than twelve guests share the house. As the day falls away, there is time to notice a look across the table before anything is served.
Then the evening gathers its layers. Light softens; a handmade vessel changes the way a dish is held; music and the scent of fire quietly mark a change of scene. At first these may seem like small choices. By the end, they feel inseparable from the meal.
The plate begins the story. The room lets it unfold.
A beetroot tastes more vividly of beetroot; a spoonful of pea soup brings back the moment a pod is opened. We use technique to make those flavours clearer, not to draw attention away from them. When a dish needs a story, we tell it. When the table wants quiet, we leave room for that too.
The current menu
Back to the Roots.
It begins with tastes you may know: the freshness of peas, tomato at its ripest, potatoes near the fire. Then each memory takes an unexpected turn.
Back to the Roots carries that movement through the evening, from the first small bite to the warmth of potica and apple strudel at the end.
