When we welcomed our first guests into our Maribor apartment, the kitchen and the table were never far apart. Jure prepared dinner; Maja welcomed the people who had come to try it. We were opening a restaurant, but also opening our home.
That closeness stayed with us when we moved to Zgornja Polskava. There are three rooms now, and more to look after, yet a dish still makes the same short journey from Jure’s kitchen to Maja’s hands. What happens between the two of us is part of what reaches your table.
As our ideas grew, we found people who could bring something of their own to them. Jernej Lubej and Valentin Bufolin helped us explore the wine beside the food. Janko Roj gave shape to the ceramics; Jernej Slapšak brought his work in wood. The things you see and touch here have people behind them. Below, we would like you to meet them.
You may not meet everyone during your evening. Some will be there through an object on the table, others through a wine Maja pours. For us, their names belong to the experience as much as the ingredients do.
And sometimes, before any of us has said hello, Štefka has already welcomed you outside.
